Kais Khoury : Στα Hot Soap Studios επικεντρωνόμαστε στην παραγωγή καλής μουσικής

To Hot Soap είναι ένα καινούριο επαγγελματικό στούντιο για ηχογραφήσεις, πρόβες και όχι μόνο, στην καρδιά της Λάρνακας. Ο ιδιοκτήτης, κ. Kais Khoury, είναι ένας 30χρονος μουσικός (παραγωγός, συνθέτης, τραγουδιστής, κιθαρίστας) από την Ιορδανία. Παρόλο που δεν ασχολείται πλέον με την παραγωγή, σύνθεση και ηχογραφήσεις δικών του τραγουδιών, εντούτοις παραμένει στο χώρο που αγαπά, αυτό της μουσικής, Διευθύνοντας το Hot Soap Recording Studios. 
Το SkalaTimes συνάντησε τον κ. Kais Khoury στην περιοχής Φανερωμένης στη Λάρνακα, στα στούντιο του Hot Soap και κουβέντιασε μαζί του γι αυτό το καινούριο στολίδι στη Λάρνακα, αλλά και για την μουσική πορεία του κύριου Kais Khoury.

Πρώτα απ ‘όλα επιτρέψτε μου να σας ρωτήσω τι σας έφερε στη Λάρνακα;
Ο λόγος που ήρθα στην Λάρνακα αρχικά είναι επειδή οι γονείς μου ερωτεύτηκαν ένα διαμέρισμα εδώ, που βρίσκεται κοντά στο Κάστρο, στις Φοινικούδες. Ερωτεύτηκαν την θέα της θάλασσας και την τοποθεσία γενικότερα, επίσης το διαμέρισμα τους έχει μια υπέροχη θέα της πόλης και ο μπαμπάς μου αγαπά πραγματικά τη Λάρνακα γι ‘αυτό αποφάσισε ότι η Λάρνακα πρέπει να είναι ο επόμενος προορισμός μας και αν συμβεί κάτι στην Ιορδανία να μπορούμε να έχουμε τη Λάρνακα.

Η Λάρνακα είναι και κοντά στην Ιορδανία …
Ακριβώς, είναι μόνο μια ώρα πτήση και επίσης η Λάρνακα είναι μια ευρωπαϊκή χώρα. Έτσι ξεκινήσαμε κάποιες επενδύσεις εδώ στην Κύπρο, στη Λάρνακα. 

Μουσικό στούντιο στην καρδιά της πόλης στην περιοχή Φανερωμένης …. Γιατί ένα μουσικό στούντιο;
Λοιπόν, γιατί εγώ ο ίδιος είμαι μουσικός από την ηλικία των 13 ετών μέχρι σήμερα (είμαι 30 τώρα) ασχολούμαι με τη μουσική εδώ και πολύ καιρό από το Γυμνάσιο, με συγκροτήματα, κτλ…Τραγουδώ και παίζω κιθάρα, κάποτε έπαιζα και πιάνο.

Υπάρχουν άλλοι μουσικοί στην οικογένειά σας;
Ναι, ο μπαμπάς μου αγαπά τη μουσική, τραγουδά και παίζει πιάνο, όχι ως επαγγελματίας αλλά για χόμπι.

Έτσι αποφασίσατε να επενδύσετε σε ένα στούντιο ηχογραφήσεων στη Λάρνακα …
Ναι, στο παρελθόν έχω εργαστεί σε ένα στούντιο ηχογράφησης στην Ιορδανία για τα δύο μου άλμπουμς (“Take me home”, “Seven shades of She”) και εργάστηκα πάνω στο τρίτο μου, (“Star in a Jar”) σε στούντιο στον Καναδά, στο Βανκούβερ, όταν ζούσα εκεί. Είναι όλα στα αγγλικά γιατί αυτό είναι το είδος της μουσικής που μου αρέσει να τραγουδήσω. Μπορεί να τα βρει κανείς στο iTunes και Spotify, αλλά ο καλύτερος τρόπος είναι η ιστοσελίδα μου, www.KAISofficial.com

Ζήσατε στο Βανκούβερ …
Ήμουν για σπουδές στο Βανκούβερ για περίπου τρία χρόνια και είχα μια μπάντα εκεί. Πραγματοποιούσα εμφανίσεις μέσα και γύρω από την πόλη. Στη συνέχεια πήγα στην Ελβετία για δύο χρόνια όπου συνέχισα τις σπουδές μου. Εκεί μπήκα στη μουσική Λέσχη στο πανεπιστήμιο.

Τι σπουδάσατε στο Βανκούβερ;
Έκανα βιοχημεία και οικονομία.

Και στην Ελβετία;
Συνέχισα τις σπουδές μου στις επιχειρήσεις (Business Administration) και αποφοίτησα από τη διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων. Έπειτα πήγα πίσω στην Ιορδανία για λίγο.

Και μετά μετακομίσατε στο Λονδίνο, όπως είδα στο βιογραφικό σας σημείωμα …
Πήγα στο Λονδίνο και σπούδασα εκεί μουσική παραγωγή για ένα χρόνο.

Πώς ξεκίνησε η ιδέα του Hot Soap Studio στη Λάρνακα και τι προσφέρει;
Είδαμε αυτό το πανέμορφο σπίτι στην περιοχή της Φανερωμένης και πιστέψαμε ότι θα μπορούσε να λειτουργήσει ως μουσικό στούντιο. Στην πραγματικότητα ήταν ιδέα της μαμάς μου. Πρότεινε ότι θα μπορούσα να μετατρέψω το σπίτι αυτό σε στούντιο.
Στα Hot Soap Studios επικεντρωνόμαστε στην παραγωγή καλής μουσικής. Το στούντιο βρίσκεται στη περιοχή Φανερωμένης, στη Λάρνακα, είναι ένας χώρος με της τελευταίας τεχνολογίας εξοπλισμό που προσφέρει υπηρεσίες  παραγωγής, ανάμειξης, mastering και πρόβας. Ποια είναι η γνώμη σας για την Κύπρο και τους Κύπριους μέχρι στιγμής;
Αγαπώ την Κύπρο. Είναι ένας παράδεισος για εμάς. Η προσωπική μου άποψη είναι ότι οι Κύπριοι είναι από τους ωραιότερους ανθρώπους που έχω γνωρίσει. Είμαι τυχερός που περιβάλλομαι από Κύπριους. Ο μπαμπάς μου έχει φίλους εδώ και είναι πολύ ωραίοι άνθρωποι. Οι φίλοι της μαμάς μου, οι Κύπριοι είναι επίσης πολύ καλοί άνθρωποι. Έτσι, έχω μια πολύ θετική άποψη θα έλεγα … το φαγητό είναι υπέροχο επίσης (lol).

Έχετε συναντήσει τον Δημάρχο της πόλης;
Τον συναντήσαμε μία ή δύο φορές.

Και μια τελευταία ερώτηση,  ποιοι είναι οι δικοί σας αγαπημένοι καλλιτέχνες;
Έχω έναν κατάλογο με μερικούς που πραγματικά μου αρέσουν αλλά θα σας αναφέρω μόνο κάποιους από αυτούς: Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., Erykah Badu, Coldplay, Radiohead, Matt Corby, Jordan Rakei, Tom Misch, Lewis Del Mar, Bonobo, D’Angelo, London Grammar… Έχω έναν εκτεταμένο κατάλογο καλλιτεχνών που μου αρέσει.

Kais Khoury: At Hot Soap Studios
we are focused on manifesting good music

Hot Soap Studio is a new professional recording studio in the heart of Larnaka. The owner of the studio Mr Kais Khoury, is a young musician (producer, singer-songwriter, guitar player and recording artist) from Jordan. Although he does not partake in production, songwriting or recording anymore, he currently remains in touch with his musicality by supervising and directing the management and business aspect of the studio.
SkalaTimes met Mr Kais Khoury at Hot Soap Studio in Larnaka and had an interesting chat with him not only for the Hot Soap Studios but also for Mr Kais’ music path and career.

First of all let me ask you what brought you to Larnaka?
Okay. So the reason I came to Larnaka initially was because my parents fell in love with an apartment here which is located close to the Castle of the city in Finikoudes. They fell in love with the sea view and the location in general and the apartment has a great view of the city. My dad really loves Larnaka so he decided that Larnaka should be our home away from home, and that if things ever turned politically sour in Jordan we would have Larnaka to fall back on.

Larnaka is also close to Jordan…..
Exactly, it’s only one hour flight and also Larnaka is a European country, so we thought it wise to investment here in Cyprus. One being the apartment and the other being the studio.

A music studio in the heart of the city in Faneromeni area….Why a music studio?
Well because I myself have been a musician from the age of 13. And you could say I still am, although I don’t partake in songwriting or recording anymore. I am 30 now so
I’ve been involved with music for quite a long time…. from bands that I performed with in high school to bands I performed with in college, and even running bands after that. I mainly sing and play guitar but I used to play piano as well so I have a not too bad background in music theory.

Are there any other musicians in your family?
Yes my dad loves music and he sings and plays piano, not professionally but as a hobby.

So you decided to invest in a recording studio in Larnaka…
Yes in the past I have worked with a recording studio in Jordan for two of my albums (“Seven shades of She”, “Star in a Jar”) and I worked on (“Take me home”) in a studio in Vancouver, Canada while living there. They’re all in English because that’s the kind of music I like to sing. They can be found on iTunes and Spotify, but the best place to look for them is on my website www.KAISofficial.com

You also lived in Vancouver…
I was in Vancouver for about three years in college and for two years post college, and both times I had a band there as well. I performed extensively throughout the city, so you could say I got exposed to the music scene of Canada from a young age. I also went to Switzerland for two years to continue my studies, where I joined the Music Club at the university there.

What did you study at Vancouver?
I was doing Biochemistry and Economics.

And what did you do in Switzerland?
I continued in Business Administration and graduated with a BSc and then from there I went back to Jordan for a little while.

And then you moved to London as I read on your CV…
Yes, I recorded one of my albums while in Jordan then went to London and studied Music Production and Sound Engineering for a year.

How did the idea of Hot Soap Studio start and what it offers?
Well, we saw this beautiful house in the area of Faneromeni and we thought it could work as a music studio. Actually, it was my mom’s idea. She gets the credit for it. As for what Hot Soap Studios offers, well we are focused on manifesting good music and good vibes and on turning people’s stories in music. That’s our greater purpose and why we do things. As for what we do, well we’re located in Faneromeni avenue, Larnaca, and happen to be a state of the art multi-suite recording facility offering recording, production, mixing, mastering and rehearsal space services. What is your opinion for Cyprus and Cypriots so far?
I love Cyprus. It’s a paradise. My personal opinion is that Cypriots are some of the nicest people that I’ve met. I’m lucky to be surrounded by a community of Cypriots. My dad has friends here that are very nice people. Mom’s friends are really nice people as well. And then Andreas who manages the studio is also my friend, and I’m lucky to be acquainted with his circle of friends. So I have a very positive opinion…the food is great too! (lol)

Have you met the mayor of the city?
We’ve met him once or twice.

So last but not least who are your favorite music artists?
I have a list with some artists that I really like but I’ll tell you only a few of them: Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., Erykah Badu, Coldplay, Radiohead, Matt Corby, Jordan Rakei, Tom Misch, Lewis Del Mar, Bonobo, D’Angelo, London Grammar…. I have an extensive list of artists that I like. But you won’t recognize them all 😉
