Medical school in Larnaca, Cyprus

On Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, The University of Balamand (UOB) and The American University of Cyprus (AUCY) have signed a letter of intent on the campus of the University of Balamand to establish a new medical school in Larnaca, Cyprus. 

This historic event was represented by the President of the University of Balamand, Dr. Elias Warrak, and the President of AUCY, Dr. Marc Antoine Zabbal.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Larnaca, Mr. Andreas Vyras, who expressed his enthusiasm for the project, “We are delighted to welcome this new medical school to Larnaca. This will provide an important opportunity for our community to access high-quality medical education and services.” The Signing ceremony was also attended by the Board of Trustees of AUCY, Dr. Tarek Sadek and VP George Phylactou and Mr. Christos Karas, Mr. Joe Ibrahim and Mr. Farid Haikal and from UOB, Dr. Salim Kanaan VP for Enrollment as well as Members from the Academic Board. 

The new medical school will focus on providing high-quality education to students in Cyprus and the surrounding region, with an emphasis on training healthcare professionals to meet the growing demand for medical services. 

The school will offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as opportunities for research and community outreach.
The American University of Cyprus and the University of Balamand are both committed to providing high-quality education, promoting research, and contributing to the development of their communities. 
This partnership marks an important step towards achieving these goals and strengthening the ties between the two institutions.
